Chapter 5 (part 1)> Heartbroken

That evening, around 5 p.m., Onew went out to a date with Ahn...


*Lee's House, hall...

Onew: Eun, i'm going out ok??
EunShi: Ne..
Onew: (smiles) Hmm...
EunShi: Huh? waeyo?
Onew: (grins) Nothing... hehehe...
EunShi: (frowns) What's the matter with u, oppa?
Onew: (shakes head) Nothing... (giggles)
EunShi: Huh?
Onew: Ah, well then, i don't know when i'm coming back. so, can u eat by urself today?
EunShi: Uh? (nods) ne...
Onew: Or, why don't u go out?
EunShi: No...
Onew: No? u can ask ur classmates to come over if u like...
EunShi: Nahh... i don't want to... (drinks)
Onew: (sighs but the smiles) Why don't u ask Minho?
EunShi: (choke) Huh?? why should i??
Onew: (grins) I thought u'd be lonely...
EunShi: Uh, no thanks...
Onew: Wae? u don't like him?
EunShi: (ignore the question) Aren't u going to be late, oppa? Ahn hates waiting...
Onew: (look at his watch) Uh! i'm going!! (rushes out) annyeong!!
EunShi: (from the hall) Ne... have a nice date!!
Onew: (at the door) Tell me if u're going anywhere!! (runs)
EunShi: (shakes head) Oppa, oppa... hmmm....


EunShi sits on the couch. she puts her mug down and try to focus on the show. but, her mind is not there. it's somewhere else. she looks at the clock and it's only 5.10 p.m. there's about an hour before her train. yes, she's going to Boolkottnooli River which is located at the other town. so, she needs to get on a train to get there. she's also bought the train ticket to come back to ShioN in about 9 p.m. she's really determined to go there today. because, it's the last time. the last chance. last chance for what? well, the last chance for her and him, Kibum. last chance for them. it's their promise. the promise that ties them together. no, more like the promise that ties her to him... Slowly, she touches her ring on her chest. it's cold. really cold. long ago, it used to be warm. cause she wore it on her ring finger. but after the break up, she wears it as a necklace. probably, that ring feels the coldness of her heart, and cold itself too. maybe. suddenly, she recalls Kibum's words at school before. "No!! so stop telling me today, tonight, last chance and whatsoever! u're being weird again!! just like last year! and the year before that too! u came to me n said, two chances left, one chance left, don't u remember and stuff! what the hell is that?? stop it already!"


Her tears flow. just remembering that make her heart aches. she's hurt. really hurt. 'how can he forgot something like that?? it was him who made that promise! not me!' she thought in her mind. but, why does she's the only one who remembers all of that? why does she the only who kept that promise? why?? because, yes, she's still in love with him. she still has tons of feelings for him. in her heart, the cold heart of hers, there's only him. only him. she can't forget about him. no way. even after nearly 3 years, she still can't forget him. she still remember the first time they look at each other in the eye. (refers Chapter 2 (part 3) Memories [1-2]) the time when he confessed to her. the time when they vow to each other. everything. even the time when they broke up...


Still with her tears, she climb up the stairs and head to her room. opens the closet and take out the clothes that she's gonna wear today. put it on the bed and heads to the bathroom. in there, she cry more. but she knows, if she didn't stop, her eyes will swell and she'll look awful. so, she stops crying and start dressing up. she looks into the mirror and calm her self down. she even wears the ring back on her finger. since it's going to cold today, she puts on the scarf that she made long ago. the matching scarf that she made for her and Kibum. satisfied, she takes her purse and coat and went downstairs. now, she writes on the board next to the stairs. it's the board where she and Onew writes as note for each other:

"I'm going out. i'll be home about 10. please don't worry about me.

After that she went outside and heads to the subway....

*Kim's House, Kibum's room...

Kibum is sitting on his bed while thinking about what 'today' and 'tonight' that EunShi was talking about. is it that important? plus, he's still in shocked. he never knows that his words can make EunShi cries. that's his worse nightmare. it's true that he's been harsh on her. but, she never cried before! so, what's all this promise and chances are about? why does those thing make her cry? how big are those thing?? still, he can't find the answer. is it something really important? does it has anything to do with them? does it? suddenly...

Mrs. Kim: Kibum!

Kibum: Uh? omma...

Mrs. Kim: What're u doing?

Kibum: Nothing... just, just listening to some music... what is it?

Mrs. Kim: (sighs) U must've forgotten right?

Kibum: Huh? what? what?

Mrs. Kim: Ur noona is coming home today!

Kibum: Eh? Hyunki noona??

Mrs. Kim: Aigoo... i already told u 2 days ago. have u forgotten??

Kibum: Uh... (rubs head and smiles) mian, omma...

Mrs. Kim: (shakes head) Get change, we're going to pick her up at the airport...

Kibum: Now??

Mrs. Kim: Yes. now!

Kibum: Uh, ne...

Mrs. Kim: Jeongmal... (went out)

Kibum: Uh... (rubs head) another nag will be in home...

Mrs. Kim: I heard that!!

Kibum: Opps... (closes mouth) 

Kibum hop down from his bed and opens his closet. he pulls out one of his coat and accidentally knock a box. the scarf that EunShi gave him about 3 years ago falls out of the box. he picked it up and stares at it...

Kibum: What is it, EunShi? why're u crying? why? 

Mrs. Kim: (from downstairs) Kim Kibum!!!

Kibum: Uh... (wears the scarf) coming!! (went downstairs)

*6.40 p.m., Boolkottnooli River...

Tons of people are flocking alongside the river. almost everyone that come to the festival are couple. Slowly, EunShi walks towards a big tree near the river. it's further away from the crowd but we can still see the fireworks clearly from there. it's the same spot every year. each year, she'll stands under the tree, waiting for Kibum to show up. but each year, it only leads her to disappointment because he never came. but still, she'll be waiting for him. and this year, she'll do the same. she'll wait. and wait until he showed up. but, will he? 

*ShioN's Airport...

Kibum: (shaking his legs) Where's that nag?

Mrs. Kim: U... she's ur noona!

Kibum: Ara yo... (mehrong)

Mrs. Kim: She'll be here... (looks at Kibum) oh, what a nice scarf! why do i never see it before?

Kibum: Huh? (looks at his scarf) Ah, i haven't wore it...

Mrs. Kim: Wae? it's so nice! where'd u bought it?

Kibum: Uh? i, i didn't bought it... 

Mrs. Kim: Eh? then??

Kibum: Some, someone gave it to me... (blush)

Mrs. Kim: (smiles) A girl eh? 

Kibum: Ani! (looks away)

Mrs. Kim: Aigoo... a boy never give something like that to another boy... who is she? ur girlfriend?

Kibum: Omma!!

Mrs. Kim: Hahaha... speaking about girlfriend, i haven't heard anything about, um, what's her name? Eun-, EunKi? EunJi?

Kibum: It's EunShi omma!

Mrs. Kim: Yes!! EunShi!! where is she?? u're still with her right? (smiles)

Kibum: We...

Hyunki: Omma!! Kibum!!!

Mrs. Kim: Huh? Hyunki!! (hugs) my little daughter... (lets go)

Kibum: Ceh, she's not little anymore, omma...

Hyunki: Ya!! Kibum-ah!! (hugs tightly) don't u miss me? don't u??

Kibum: Uh... noona!! let me go!!

Hyunki: Uh!! (lets go) u don't miss me??? u little!! (pinches Kibum's cheek)

Kibum: Uh.... >.<

Hyunki: Hahaha... uh? u're taller now!!

Kibum: Of course i do!! 

Mrs. Kim: (shakes head) Aigoo... u two... oh, let's go home now...

Hyunki: Ne!! (holds Mrs. Kim's hands) Kibum, bring my bags ok? (walks)

Kibum: Uh!!! 

Hyunki: (turns and mehrong)

Kibum: Noona!! (push the cart) what did u bring home huh?? rocks??

Hyunki: (mehrong) None of ur business!

Kibum: (blabbering) But i'm the one who supposed to push this! damn! (mehrong)

*In the car...

Hyunki: Geez! i miss u guys so much!!

Mrs. Kim: We miss u too...

Kibum: I didn't miss u!

Hyunki: (turns) Aish... 

Kibum: (mehrong)

Hyunki: (mehrong backs) Omma! what did u cook? i miss ur cooking like hell!!

Mrs. Kim: U'll see when we get home...

Kibum: Fat~

Hyunki: Ya!! 

Kibum: (mehrong)

Mrs. Kim: Kibum! treat ur noona better!

Kibum: Uh... ne... (leans back)

Hyunki continue to chat with Mrs. Kim while Kibum plays with his phone. Hyunki is his noona and just got back from Beijing. she went there about two years ago, during her first year of high school. now she come back to sits for her final exam which all 3rd years are going to take. they always got to each other's neck because Hyunki loves to make fun of Kibum and bullies him. only she's the one who capable of doing so since she's his noona. and she took advantage of her title very much...

Just then, Kibum got bored and don't know what to do. he doesn't want to interrupt Hyunki's chat with omma since he'll be the only one who got scolded. so, he text Jinwoon...

"Yo, what's up? i'm bored like hell! >.<

Few minutes later, Jinwoon replies and they text each other...

"Nothing. playing some game. waeyo?

"My naggy noona got back from Beijing! disaster!!

"Hyunki noona?? ㅋㅋㅋ (: serves u right!

"Uh... damn! >.< hate her!! i had a bad day at school, now home too!!

"School? 'ㅇ' what happened?

"That EunShi... she keeps saying things like 'last chance' , 'today' , 'tonight' and stuff...

i got pissed..  -ㅅ-

"What's that supposed to mean? :O

"Molla yo... she also said something like 'don't u remember??' n 'promise' . .

"Yeah... :( i don't what she's talking about...

"Maybe u made a promise with her. did u?

Kibum: Promise???
Hyunki: Mwo? don't u want to get out? we're here!
Kibum: Uh, (looks around) ne... (gets out of the car and walks into the house)


Promise? what promise? Kibum thought in his mind. have we ever made a promise?? now, things starting to become clear. everything that EunShi have said before starting to make sense...


*9 p.m, Boolkottnooli River..


It's already 9 o'clock. the fireworks showcase already ended about half and hour ago. people are starting to go home. but EunShi is still waiting under the tree. even though it's getting colder, and she's been waiting for more than 2 hours, she's still standing there. still hoping for Kibum to show up. but, he didn't. a few drop of tears flow out from her eyes. he didn't come. even after what she said, he didn't come. he didn't even remember about their promise. thinking about that made her cry harder. she nearly fall onto her knees but luckily she managed to clings on the tree in time. 


Realizing that he wouldn't come, she takes her scarf off and ties it on the fence in front of her. her neck feels cold but she didn't care. she takes off her gloves and pulls the ring out and throw it into the river. she's heartbroken. really heartbroken....
